Monday, July 28, our club meeting featured Dr. Nick Gardner, principal of Ross Elementary School, let us know he is now also the principal of Eisenhower Middle School. With a combined near 1,000 students, they have 180 staff members. They work hard to decrease the number of "Chronic Absenteeism" and have lowered the percentage this past year but have more to do. Nick let us know that our "Kiwanis Partnership" taught the kids how to shake hands (something rather assumed as knowledge, but is not). Robert & Jan Maxwell are the Kiwanis liaisons with Ross Elementary with other club members pitching in to help from time to time. Today's meeting had multiple activities happening. Of course we had our happy dollars.
Greg Sims provided an update for the recent golf tournament. Thanks to all our sponsors listed that contributed to our golf tournament.
Then we did announcements (see the attached image for upcoming activities) and we rolled into elections for 2025-2026 for both the Kiwanis Club of Topeka (Downtown Kiwanis) and the Topeka Kiwanis Foundation. Congrats to next year's leadership.
Finally, we had our guest speakers, Brian Alexander from Bartlett & West and Kate Craft from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), talk with us about the Polk Quincy Viaduct. Thanks for the update. ... See MoreSee Less

May 19th: Scholarship Luncheon honoring our 6 high school scholarship winners / Speaker to be announced. Catered luncheon buffet, consider donating the cost of a lunch for one of our honorees or their family members. Sign-Up Genius for head count on the website calendar.

June and July Speakers: June 9th – Robert Maxwell June 23rd - Ruth Santer – Kiwanis Foundation July 14th – Meegan Shuler – Shawnee Co. CASA July 28th – Nick Gardner – Ross Elementary
July 18-20th: Key Leader - Leadership Weekend at Rock Springs 4H Ranch for students who are or will be in high school next fall. Encourage high school students you know to learn leadership skills and become a leader in their community. Registration is open!! www.key-leader.org
